Values
Mission:
Our mission is to provide therapeutic outdoor adventures to people who would not otherwise have the opportunity. We work directly with local schools and partner organizations to develop program curriculum that fits their populations' specific therapeutic needs. Currently, we use rock climbing as our main modality but are also adding fly fishing to our programming this year.
Vision:
To foster an equitable and inclusive outdoor community.
Diversity Statement:
When the outdoors are accessible and inclusive, they become a better place for all to recreate
Values:
Stewardship of Nature
We implement Leave No Trace practices into all of our programs. By increasing accessibility to the outdoors we are also increasing impact on the places that we love the most. In order to protect and respect these spaces as best as we can, EMG strives to instill a greater understanding of the natural world that we live in and an understanding of how best to take care of it.
Education
We believe that an individual’s ability to connect with their environment starts with understanding that environment. This belief leads us to promote a positive learning space to encourage that understanding, while focusing on experiential education and a hands-on approach. Furthermore, EMG as a whole is committed to ongoing learning about how to better serve our communities and adopting better practices as we come to know them.
Respect
As an organization that provides trauma-informed recreation, there is an important emphasis on respect within EMG. Respect for participants and their experiences is imperative to our mission. Respect is the basis of an inclusive, accommodating, and accepting environment. It all starts with our EMG guides, volunteers, and administrators respecting one another and of course, we couldn’t forget to bring up respecting the beautiful outdoor spaces that we love to climb all over.
Community
Our program was created on the foundation of community engagement. The desire to carry on that legacy is why we work so hard to get involved with our local Salt Lake City and Summit County communities. Furthermore, we want to expand our climbing community to include anyone who would like to be involved. To do this, we try to make our programs as accessible as possible in order to provide opportunities for those who have not had them previously. People from all backgrounds should be able to be included in the outdoor community.
